Chat Widget Guide

The Chat Widget is a powerful and flexible overlay that lets you display your live chat directly on stream. Designed to work with all major streaming software—such as OBS and Streamlabs OBS—this widget is fully customisable, allowing you to tailor its appearance and behaviour to suit your brand, layout, and audience preferences.

Themes

You can start by selecting one of several built-in themes such as Bubbly, Pastel, Neonwaves, Matrix Terminal and Cosmic Blast. If you have additional theme ideas or suggestions for new designs, we’d love to hear from you! Join our community Discord and share your ideas with our team.

General

From there, you’ll be able to adjust how many messages appear at once, how long they stay visible, and how they fade in and out. If you’d like to block specific viewers from appearing in your chat overlay, you can easily blacklist usernames to keep things clean and curated.

Appearance & Messages

Customisation doesn’t stop at behaviour—you also have full control over the widget’s design. Typography settings let you choose your own font, tweak the size and line height, and modify how usernames appear, including their font weight and colours. You can even match role-based colours to your own preferences for stream roles like broadcaster, moderator, or viewer. The widget’s background can be set to a solid colour or replaced with an uploaded image, and you can fine-tune layout spacing to make everything fit neatly into your stream scene.

In terms of chat content, you can customise message background and text colours, enable or disable Twitch-specific features like badges and user-selected name colours, and decide whether to include things like commands, bot messages, or emotes. If you’re using 7TV, emotes are fully supported. You can also add subtle animations to chat message entries and exits to bring extra life to your overlay.

Events

Beyond basic chat, the widget can also display stream events such as followers, subscribers, raids, hosts, or gifted subs. Each of these event types can be toggled on or off, and you’re free to rewrite the event messages that appear in the widget. If you already use a Reactions system to handle these events (see the Reactions Overview for details), make sure you don’t duplicate them unnecessarily.

Advanced

For those comfortable with code, you’ll also find a Custom CSS field. This allows advanced users to write their own styles for the widget, providing a truly bespoke appearance.

Setting It Up

To use the Chat Widget in your streaming software, simply head to your Dashboard and find the browser source link in the top-right corner of the Chat Widget section. Copy that link.

Then, open OBS (or your preferred broadcasting software), add a new Browser Source, paste the link into the URL field, and position the widget within your stream layout. That’s it—your chat is now live and styled exactly how you’ve configured it.
